Leo,
re the Minster I don't know whether its you or the camera. Unusually for, well certainly for modern buildings, it looks like your subject isn't taller to the left than on the right. Otherwise there are some very weird perspectives going on. Because of the hill the left side ground level being a bit lower than the right. For this reason the roofline isn't horizontal but falls away slightly from right to left. Either your camera has automatically framed this as a horizontal or you, possibly sub-conciously, did. I suspect the latter because it still isn't quite horizontal. For that reason the whole image is rotated very slightly clockwise hence the minster and the tower blocks behind leaning.
By the way I think you did an excellent job framing this image any way as you will have been stood on a slope, and were probably being buffeted by the wind. You also presumably were very patient waiting for the Pedestian Crossing down by the Minster to stop traffic, which is presumably the only way you wouldn't have a car in shot during current daylight hours.

Cheers Dalehelms and tyke bhoy
.
Yes I did have to wait for traffic and pedestrians to get out of view as there were plenty of both around! At least they do eventually go, unlike such things as full to capacity very unsightly wheelie bins that would spoil photos in many areas such that I try not to take photos where they would be in view. There seems to be ever increasing wheelie bins around

Wish I could hear "The Parish Church" mentioned in these most interesting posts as "MInster" sounds alien to me. (just getting old, don't like change) Regards

Judging by the state of the buildings and the proposed planned development i'd say a May completion date is pretty optimistic.
BTW the old vacuum cleaner spares shop on the opposite side of the crossing has planning permission to be converted into a licensed cafe and apartments.
Seems that estate agents are crying out for new apartments in Leeds centre as the current stock is 99% let.
Who would have thought that 5 years ago?

Have passed it a few times, looking better than it did. I bet on a warm Sunday afternoon/tea time sat outside there overlooking the parish church and it's gardens with a nice real ale and a big Sunday dinner in front of you will be a heart warming experience.looking forward to it

Re: A grade 2 listed building for sale next to the Parish Ch
It's an interesting photo (dated 27th March) that uncle mick posted. I'm surprised that compared to the photos that I took on January 9 2015 (which I posted on January 10) that there is not that much obvious change externally, e.g. still broken windows. The poor condition of the corner brickwork does though seem to have been fixed.
The photo posted by uncle mick is labelled 'Royal Oak. jpg' so I assume that Royal Oak is the name of the new pub/bar. I wonder if that name has any connection with the area?

Leo, I only labelled the photo "Royal Oak" because that was the name of the pub that was at 1 Church Row in the 19th Century. I have no idea what the name of the new pub will be.
I have seen lots of photos of the renovation work & there have been a lot changes especially on Church Row down to Kirkgate House.

Thanks uncle mick for the information about it once being the Royal Oak
. That is most interesting and also something I had forgotten as on looking back at posts in this thread there is one by Croggy1 dated June 3 2014 in which it states "The grade II-listed 1 Church Row, located next to Leeds Parish Church, was originally a public house in the 19th century and the proposed refurbishment will be returning it to its previous use. The building was operated as The Royal Oak Inn in the 19th century...".

I passed a couple of weeks back and a mason was re-pointing the brickwork very heavily!!uncle mick wrote:Photo by Graham Daniels 27th March
These handmade bricks were very old but have made it through to today and clearly can be rescued with a skilled hand and patience. Whether there is any liquid treatment to stabilise them I dunno but you can see on the picture there looks to be as much mortar as brick!!
Who cares, it's time we stopped knocking down interestingold brick buildings, wherever next? Temple Newsam!
