'Stringer' is another example of a surname linked to the activity.

I guess it's where the Lands Lane entrance to the Schofields Centre is now. Is that little stub of pedestrian precinct still called King Charles Croft?

didnt realise the pub had been there for so long. Think that bit of pedestrian area is called King Charles something, but not sure if it is croft. If you go down there now though they have destroyed (sorry knocked down) the branch of Shellys shoes on the corner, and judging by the plans on the boards outside it looks like they are going to fill it all in and build a shop unit over the old pedestrian bit - an extra unit is no doubt better than the wasted space that is there now to the owners!I tried to see if there were any foundations for the old pub, or trace of cellars on the vacant lot, but all you can see if the concrete floor. You can't get up to the food court area now either as they are remodeling that, otherwide you can get a cracking "aerial" view of the vacant site where the pub once stood.

Here's the King Charles from Leodis. Pic is from 1967. I believe it closed around 1973/74. I can claim to have had drink here - though it was only sitting outside - and my (older) sister bought it for me - I was a bit too young to get served properly! Behind is part of Schofields. beyond that the old church/chapel(not sure which) still survives.
