I have lots of experience with mobile cranes - usually behind them while they are blocking a lane and a half on the M62 while they're doing 20mph, or even worse on the A58 when they slow to 10 mph on the uphill bits but still won't pull over and allow anyone to pass...Does anyone remember the one that broke down on Victoria Road next to Bridgewater Place a few years ago and had to be left there blocking the road for FOUR days while they got the parts to fix it? What a joke that was. There is absolutely no way these sloth like behemoths should be allowed out on the roads unescorted during peak periods, there should be an emergency plan in place to cope with a breakdown (rather than just leaving it in place) and every driver should be made to read and abide by the Highway Code.

A mate who uses the Leeds>Harrogate Rd is convinced that no speed devices are necessary:-there is always an Elmsleys Crane Hire driving to Harrogate, and one driving to Leeds.

Boar Lane(and near Burger King) all odour free.......the smell of the so called burgers was a bit offensive though. As for the water depth......I only ventured down the Granary Wharf arch to the road bridge overlooking back Little Neville St. and obviously the water is pretty shallow there so if that's a typical place to measure the depth, then all well and good. What was interesting was the rip tide effect from the back current from all the mass of water swirling around the (river ?) basin.....This looked quite powerful and I could imagine being caught in even this depth of water could present a problem with the undercurrent.

When I was at the Dark Arches on the 22nd I noticed that where the River Aire was just about to come out from the Dark Arches there was a strong turbulence effect where the water flow seemed to be being held up. I did wonder what was the cause as there seems to be nothing obvious that would impede the flow when I've seen the area in low flow.

(sorry,a bit off thread).

The impedance is the "low flow" itself by comparison with the extremely rapid flow down the gradient under the station gentlemen.
