The extensive alterations to the former shop now appear to be complete, and the property is "TO LET."
There's nothing like keeping the past alive - it makes us relieved to reflect that any bad times have gone, and happy to relive all the joyful and fascinating experiences of our own and other folks' earlier days.

I remember going in this shop when I was little, It was owned by the same family that own the corner shop that still stands across from the Abbey, my dad tells me they had two shops, the abandoned one which acted as a sort of sweet and icecream shop and the one that's still open 'Neils shop,' Neil being their son, that was the newsagents, apparently it was just a case of not being able to afford to run both.

I also recall he was working in Saudi Arabia while his wife ran the shop. Its also said his wife was having an affair and this might have pushed him over the edge. There might be some reference to this in the book linked below with prudom on cover.http://www.amazon.co.uk/Yorkshire-Murde ... 1853064904 Can't believe someone is trying to sell a copy of that for £60 inc P&P. I've just ordered a copy for £2.99+ £2.80 P&P Its a good read, glad you got it cheaper. There's copies on Amazon for 1p now. Plus £2.79 for P&P, they get you with that, lol.

A netto carrier bag.     Haha, yes, I remember that. I also remember going into the one in Wortley (before that it was Asda.....it's now an Asda again) and seeing somebody from my high school who had earlier that day been hurling abuse about people shopping at Netto. Needless to say, he looked at his shoes as he went past, his face went beetroot red etc.
