Remember one of the techies was a big Scottish chap with a razor sharp wit. I used to run a branch of a business at Castleford and we had a Ford D series truck. It broke down and our fitter went out to it. The problem was the fuel lift pump. He got it going on a temporary basis but we decided we'd have to have a new pump. I went to Tates Trucks for the part, I asked for an exchange pump - sorry they didn't do exchange, I'd have to have a new one - £60, we couldn't operate without the truck, so I said ok, I'd better have a new one. But they hadn't got one, it'd be three days! It was a Bosch pump (I think) and I ended up at Sewells, the problem was a spring and Sewells did the spring, .60p!

Hello All,I know this topic is slightly off Leeds area but it is related.Does anybody have any photos/recollections/or know somebody who worked at the Wetherby branch of "Tate of Leeds" Ford garage?I've had a 1962 Ford Anglia now for many years that originally came from there and would like to know more about the dealership. A 1960's photo of the garage would be great. An online search has shown up one image from the early days prior to Tates, but nothing else. Also when we got the car the previous owners said they bought it from "The Motor Show". Now that can't be the main London Earl's Court show due to dates. But does anybody know if there used to be a Yorkshire/Leeds motoring type show? Maybe that's where my car was exhibited before it was bought?Any comments greatfully received.RegardsChris Hargeaves

That was quick Chris Hope you find what you're looking for - the car sounds cool anyway, you should post some pics of your classic Tate Ford! You might find this thread interesting too: http://www.secretleeds.com/forum/Messag ... eadID=4965. That thing was the inspiration for this year's March of the Robots event that Playful Leeds and others are organising http://www.marchoftherobots.com/.

Many towns have held small local motor dealer shows over the years, it is possible that the car was perhaps ordered from one of these local events and collected from the garage at a later date, or that your car was a ex demonstrator registered to Tate’s that was on display at a local motor show. For a small fee DVLA can provide the details of all previous registered keepers if you think that this might be the case with your car.I’m sure this picture of the old garage pre Tate’s of Leeds on Leodis, will probably be the same photo you have already found for Fredrick Snape’s garage.http://www.leodis.org/display.aspx?reso ... 0622Leodis search has thrown up no hits for motor shows in the Leeds area, but I did find this picture of a Ford Anglia in Wetherby though in 1962.http://www.leodis.org/display.aspx?reso ... 616030Does Wetherby have one of these old photo groups on Facebook? I’ve had quite a bit of success finding old photos of my local area that has answered a lot of questions about the good old days for me. Perhaps posting a picture of your car on a local Facebook group with your story, will jog a few local memories and come up trumps with some old photos from the motor show for you.As a retro and classic car fan myself, I second dsco’s request to see pictures of your Ford Anglia, and would also like to make you aware of a local classic show for a very good cause that you may be interested in bringing your car along to. This event has been held at Kirkstall Abbey for a number of years, but it will be moving to Temple Newsam for this show on 9th August 2014.http://www.st-gemma.co.uk/wp-content/up ... m.pdfEntry to the general public is still free, and those wishing to display a classic can do so for a donation to St Gemma’s with the application form above. There is a thread on Secret Leeds with a link to Secret Leeds member raveydavey’s photos from previous shows. Sadly this excellent fundraising event does not get the publicity it really does deserve.I’m also thinking that the racecourse is likely to be the location of a motor show held in Wetherby, or Harrogate could be another possible location for a 1962 Yorkshire motor show, Harrogate does still hold motoring events for a variety of new, classic and specialist vehicles.Sorry for going way off the original thread topic of Leeds Ford dealers here, please feel free to remove it if it likely to cause any offence to or is of no interest to able bodied Secret Leeds members dsco.Harrogate will be holding a Motability adapted vehicle event on 14th August 2014 that might just be of some interest to some Secret Leeds members.http://www.motability.co.uk/whats-on-an ... =tab-0&I’m taking my Dad over to this event so that he can test drive some vehicles fitted with different types of hand controls. There will be standard un-adapted vehicles on static display, these will all be supplied by local dealers for the event and cannot be ordered from any of them directly on the day, but a good selection of interesting specialist wheelchair adapted vehicles will also be on display, and non wheelchair adapted vehicles with various different hand controls will also be available to book for test drives with a Motability approved driving instructor, for those with a driving licence on them with 3 points or less, and all visitors to the event get a free hot or cold drink. Scooters and wheelchairs are available free of charge for those that need them to get around the event. We went to one held at Event City in Manchester a few months ago, but my Dad wasn’t really fit enough to test drive any of the adapted vehicles. Some of the colour-changing mood lighting displays on some of the wheelchair access vehicles were amazing. Great things have happened to disabled vehicles since my Grandad handed back his old blue invalid carriage to the Ministry when he stopped driving in the early 80s.

Hi morleyhall,Thanks for the indepth and detailed, if sometimes "off topic" :-) reply!I had seen the Snape's garage photo already thanks. The other from 1962 is the right year and model of car but sadly not mine. This is a single colour car, mine has a light grey roof.I have been many times to Kirkstall Abbey show. didn't know it had moved but sadly already double booked for the 9th.RegardsChris

My Dad used to take me to Motor Shows in the Queens Hall in the late 1960s. I can remember cars being on sale and even recall my Dad getting very interested in a Ford Anglia there (could have been the same one!). I can remember seeing a Land Speed record holder vehicle - Golden Arrow IIRC. I can also remember being told off for sitting on the fat tyre of the Gold Leaf Lotus F1 car!
