If they turned it into apartments i'd definitely think about buying one! Its one of my favorite buildings but it just seems alot of money for someone to shell out on an old building thats probably going to need double the amount again spending on it to turn it into anything

I pass this building every day on my way to work and always think how sad it looks. where abouts was the pool was it not in the same building? Also when did it close? I am 24 and can't remember it ever being open but my mum says she can remeber being able to see the swimming pool through the window when she went past on the bus!

The baths were behind the library building. If you look at the top picture here http://blog.myspace.com/index.cfm?fusea ... 8798330You can see the first arch that led to the baths. Look close and you can see it says public baths above the archway.

For some reason there is very little documented about the baths. I think I've only seen one picture of it. There will be people on here who remember it and will be able to tell you when it closed. From the comments people leave on my pictures it seemed to close in the 60's.

Not sure of the date of closure -but my mum used to go swimming there. I know Doris Storey trained there for the Empire Games - and I think at her funeral in 2005 they stopped outside the library/baths.

Birds & bubbly in an open air swimming pool, I'd not be living on York road that's for sure!
