I believe that Chapel Allerton was originally known as Chapel Alreton, and had its boundaries marked out by a Triangle using Willow trees as marking points. These three Willow trees still stand today, stretching from Meanwood Road, right up to Moortown Corner and down Harrogate road. This village appeared when it became popular to build Chapels around towns for travellers and Chapel Allerton was grew from one of these although i expect the old chapel is now long gone. I live in Chapel Allerton now and find the place has lots of old secrets from Tunnels connecting the Mustard Pot pub to Allerton House to the old Wesleyan Chapel which stood next to HSBC bank. This was a massive church which would look magnificent today. I always wondered why there was a large graveyard on Harrogate road with no church!Anyway - great site - absolutley love it...

Back on page one, Farbank mentioned the Armley 'Lock-up'. I took my daughter (age 11) for a look at it t'other day. She was fascinated by it and, I must admit, so was I. I think the woman sat on the bench further down was also fascinated by the two loons looking at a hole in the wall. I nearly yelled 'Secret Leeds' at her but didn't think that would help somehow. But guess which idiot didn't take their camera. Yeah! My daughter ; ) Well I'm not going to take the blame am I.

The very latest update from the local Historical Society, is, that Rebecca B. has notified the Society , that a representative of the developers has sounded enthusiastic about incorporating the remains, somehow/somewhere in the new project.! Good for them. Rebecca B is wonderfull woman who has done so much for the Armley area. If she says she's gona do summat she'll move heaven and earth to do so. And, I still can't work out where the bleeding lockup in Armley is / was!
