Thanks drapesy for your input, which is appreciated. It's extremely unusual for a thread of mine to attract anything like as much interest as this one has done, so it must be of greater interest than most threads that I post!Your C5 Sinclair post Phill made me . I recall at the time of their issue it was claimed they would revolutionise city centre travelling. Perhaps what Leeds needs is a fleet of Sinclair C5s not a trolly bus!

Yes, thanks Drapesy and thank to you too Leodian for bringing this up. It's always interesting to know more about a building one almost takes for granted.Now, who's going to solve the "trap door" mystery? Personally I guess they're situated at the bottom of fire grates or an old waste chute system. Though I suppose they could even be an old ladder-through-the-floor fire escape system seem in buildings of a certain age.
