Thanks for the pic Lyndoch,I was there at the time but though some names are familiar no one jumps out at me. I was a little older, which might explain things.WE always had a great football team, we were good at swimming too.

Like a couple of others here I went to St.Silas primary school in Hunslet. We lived in Pitfield Place, not that I remember much about it as I was only about 6 when we left the area. I recall being taken through the streets to school by my Mother and the school itself being a very black (with soot) building. The only other things I remember are lining up in the playground , some tables that were painted light blue and green (possibly!) and being given a "blood orange" for some reason. I didn't eat it because of the red centre! I than attended South Accommodation Road for a while before moving to Tinshill and going to Ireland Wood, which as far as I know is still there. It's a shame there are no pics of St.Silas on Leodis,I would like to see if my memory is correct.

I remember Ann Calvert. She married a chap who I worked with called Ken Walding. They went to live at Bridlington. She tragically died last year of cancer. Morton Learoyd was the son of the famous Armley gents hairdresser Alf Learoyd.I think Morton also died a few years ago, quite young. You should have a look at the Leodis website Armley Park school is featured on there with lots of comments from former pupils. Did you have a sister called Sandra?

I don't suppose anyone remembers Stanningley Council School is it still there. The last teachers I remember was a Mr Crowther and a Miss Meek I left it in1939 to be evacuated with my gas mask and name tag to Scotter Lincs, and never returned to that school. Istill have friend that attended the small chuch school just below the Huddersfield Arms or as that gone. smallships

Some weeks ago, a photograph was posted of St. Michael's College and comments were made requesting information. I sent some information concerning the building, but since then nobody seems to have continued the matter. I have our class photograph somewhere, taken sitting on the steps to the main door, probably in 1946. If I locate it I will post it. Unless my memory fails me (which it often does nowadays) I believe the teacher in the group was Mr McDermott (aka the Axe).
