There are a few photos on Facebook jim here's one I'm sure it wasn't like that this morning when I passed it!The clock hasn't been working for a few days now though.

The YMP have finally noticed their old abode is in the process of being flattened (or did they read it here first ).http://www.yorkshireeveningpost.co.uk/n ... 246Nothing happening at thee front yet, though I'll keep an eye open and camera pointed from my vantage point.

I'll miss it, I might even have to look at my watch to tell if I'm on schedule to catch my bus home that is. I wonder if they've applied for planning permission to turn it into a rubble and weed strewn eyesore for years?
I like work. I can watch it for hours.

My Dad worked full-time for the N.G.A. in the late seventies. One day visiting the YEP the editor asked him what he thought of the paper. 27 years experience as compositor typographer linotyper and stereotyper came to my Dad's aid. In one summary alloy word Dad struck; edited for content. The editor in his defense said it was due to the move from the old building, they had not settled in. Pathetic.

It makes you think about your age when the building you always referred to as "the new building" is being pulled down! Where did all those years go? It has been said on here by many people that they considered it an eyesore, I say, compared to the working conditions in the rabbit-warren that was the Albion Street office, it was heaven. All three newspaper offices I worked at in Leeds, Trinity Street, Albion Street and now Wellington Street have gone. Stop the presses - I want to get off!
Daft I call it - What's for tea Ma?

I wonder what the architect (John Madin) would have made of it.He wasn't to see the demise of the place having died 8/1/2012 so probably wouldn't have been aware then of plans to demolish it.His brutalist style was evident throughout the UK,but in particular Birmingham. He was also majorly responsible for the design of Telford (or Dawley New Town as it was originally known).Apparently, the reason behind so much use of concrete was claimed to be down to the lack of building materials post WW2.Concrete,however,was cheap and more available.Interestingly, many of his buildings have met with the wrecking ball......proving either that modern buildings don't last or styles/tastes and adaptability and suitability changes.Or all !
