Considering they own the excellent Crowd of Favours, which is very nearby, could they be possibly encroaching on their own business and as a result could they start getting a bit like teh recently gone bust Anthonys restaurant chain. If anything they would have been better off opening something at the top of town, say taking over the old Guilford, and thus giving them (and Leeds) a better spread of their pubs. The Northern Monkey (The Guilford ) is only slightly further away from the White Swan than this will be from Crowd of Favours so same problem there but with the exception of the Swan Leeds Brewery do seem keen on being close to the riverbank. But I agree I too was surprised that Leeds Brewery would want to open up so close to Crowd of Favours particularly when the "RealAle" trade is also more than adequately also served in the proximity by the Palace and Duck and Drake (for those brave enough to venture in )

They're clearly developing an estate and trying to appeal to as many drinkers as they can. That said I was rather surprised to find the Brewery Tap almost empty at 1pm on Thursday last week - I know it's basically a station pub but I would have thought it did well for lunchtime food - the menu looked great.

If someone suggested we meet in the Northern Monkey or the Crowd of Favours I would have absolutely no idea what they were talking about. The Guildford = Headrow; White Swan = Call LaneAt risk of sounding like an old **rt, I'm not keen on the current trend towards 'this years new bar name'.Leodian discovered the wonderfully named 'Old Parrot Hotel' which used to be junction Call Lane/ The Calls.[Edit - is crowd of favours what used to be the big green fish & chip shop & before that the ex army store?]

Both were roughly where the Victoria Quarter is now. The 'Boy and Barrel Inn' was by a 'Boy and Barrel Yard'.

Crowd of Favours & the D&D are like chalk & cheese, personally I like them both but that's what we need more diversity if that's the correct word

I like the "The Providence coach to Thorp Arch ran from the Boot and Shoe every Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday from 1835 to 1844". It's such snippets of information that makes the Leodis website so interesting.
