Attached to lamposts, no markings and nothing at all stating what they are for.If they are ANPR all the villans will have to cut through Harehills, Gipton and Seacroft to avoid them....Plus there have been two ANPR type cameras inbound just next to the Windmill Hotel for ages.

Another couple of "mysterious" devices for you but of poor quality as taken from the top deck a moving bus. First up one on the Headrow west bound just past the town hall (does that make it Westgate?). I first noticed this in late November or early December and until closer observation thought it was part of the Christmas lights. It appear to be 3 video cameras on the same pole all with a bright red light showing. ..

The next one is close to the ne mentioned in the OP of the thread. There are very tall extensions to the top of the pair of traffic lights between park row and city square. It doesn't appear to be cameras and whatever it is at the top is well above the level of the highest vehicle passing through.

MaidenLUFC wrote: The CCTV cameras with red lights just below each camera are ANPR cameras AFAIK - to catch tax dodgers and the like. There's some in the "yard" of Millgarth as you come past, pointing at oncoming traffic from the eastgate roundabout. Isn't 3 in the same place a bit more than belt and braces though?

Just one for each possible lane.

tyke bhoy wrote: possibly Chameleon but on the side of the road they are on there is only the one lane at this point. The reverse direction has 3 although one is a bus lane leading to the dedicated bus traffic signal. I'm left unsure of just where they are mounted now. (it is not unusal to put them on to restricted use lanes though - to catch anyone trying to avoid them - wonder if they could also be used to identify those who demonstrate their indifference to the law by thinking the lane/no thoroughfare/bus lanes don't apply to them too?)

http://maps.google.co.uk/maps?oe=utf-8& ... erestingly it looks like they have been there for some time but I have only seen them because of bright red lights in darkness just after dusk in November/December. They are on the side of a single and totally unrestricted lane heading west from the Headrow to Westgate. I doubt they can be covering the furthest lane in the opposite direction being the bus lane Westgate to the Headrow which has a dedicated traffic light to allow buses to cross the two outer lanes which can turn left across the bus lane into Oxford Place. The outer of those two lanes can also continue into the Headrow as private vehicle restrictions don't apply until past the Cookridge St junction.
