Well, it looks like it's been stripped out and is possibly being renovated. The window facing Abbey Road looks like it now has breeze blocks behind it. Think I preferred it before. I liked the mystery of what might be behind the locked door (time capsule?). I hope they took some pictures before it was ripped out.

Well spotted, Barnie!Sounds as if it may be being changed into living accommodation? I vaguely remember going into the shop many years ago.I know what you mean re the "Mystery".... Mind you, we could invent our own excitement and ask the question...."Are there also some breeze blocks there to seal off a tunnel leading to the Abbey????"

Planning application for change of use at https://publicaccess.leeds.gov.uk/onlin ... 6FXJB0QU00 and a list of documents at http://plandocs.leeds.gov.uk/WAM/showCa ... 2/00961/FU including a plan of the ground floor.Interestingly there are 2 other planning applications listed at https://publicaccess.leeds.gov.uk/onlin ... 4S0JBLI000 where one is from 1981 and the other is from 1983. Both were made by a G T Patel and the latest one is made by a Mrs V Patel so I wonder if the place closed when G Patel decided to retire and Mrs Patel continued to live there afterwards. Of course I'm still curious about when it did close. There's this photo of the shop taken in 1953 on Leodis so it's obviously been there a while: http://www.leodis.net/display.aspx?reso ... ifier=8611

Interesting. What an ideal location for a corner shop though. I'd love to own it

Work on the building seems to have stalled at present, unless all the activity is going on within for now.
There's nothing like keeping the past alive - it makes us relieved to reflect that any bad times have gone, and happy to relive all the joyful and fascinating experiences of our own and other folks' earlier days.

I am confused by the planning application, I had always been searching for info on 2 De Lacy Mount and didn't realise it had an Abbey Road address?

My daughter lives in flat and the road the flat's on isn't the road for her address. Instead, they've used the name of the busy main road which runs the far side of her flat. Baffles me too, Barnie..
