We are now looking at the old maps and deeds to try and date the building If memory serves me right i believe there was a record of 1725 for the building, dont ask me where it is.The real test of the age of the age of the building would be in the rafters, and dont forget the adjoining property, which was part of the pub as well.If you dont mind me asking how have you come around to thinking of trying to reopen the pub,or is that hush hush at the moment?

Here's a page on the skulls thread where the date of building origin is discussed:http://www.secretleeds.com/forum/Messag ... age=750but it's just about the maps so it's not that much help.Don't know about anyone else but I still trawl the net whenever I can to see if anything new comes up on this.

I do every now and again. There was a mention of many returns fro "Crown and Fleece" on the British Library newspapers online website, but frankly i think that they are asking too much for viewing.

Just read all that page in the link, great days for the site, real passion and intensity and humour, nothing sums this website up better than the Skulls thread.I remember signing on at work in Leeds, arriving in London and heading straight to the internet cafe to find that nearly two pages had been posted since i had left home.

I'd forgotten about the Dyson's sign on the gable and not put two and two together about the skulls! However, the best bit on your post is the Dyson link with Lower Dunsforth as this family are known to me but I was not aware of their connection with Crown Street! Now looking forward to a very interesting evening in the Angler to discuss the return of the sculls. Many thanks for this gem of info!Kirk Gate     Whither Kirk Gate?
