Thanks Uncle Mick, you've confirmed my guess that AE was one of Horace's brothers. I can see that I'm going to have to cough up for some more credits on the census websites and do some proper research of my own. I wonder if Nelly changed the shop from a grocers to a newsagent/sweetshop when AE died? Perhaps the business was suffering from competition from the Co-op which was very nearby on York Road (near Ivy Street as far as I remember, it may even still be there?).(Quote)It was always listed N Sunter as a newsagents etc from 1928 till 1975 and there is no telephone number for AE Sunter Also it appears that Nellie died in 1953 so I assume the business was either carried on by the family or carried on by someone else trading under the Sunter name.

Home at last!Have we achieved closure here? Hi Bruno, Carolyn decided we should make a small detour on our way out yesterday - the opposite direction to the way we were going....That bit about crawling through old grave yards, well she had a good idea of where to look and sure enough in Harehills Cemetry, I was taken to see a memorial which she thought you may like to see:http://www.flickr.com/photos/chameleon2 ... 799737750/

Thanks Chameleon! Sorry about the delay in responding, our whole family has been laid up since Sunday morning with some kind of rather nasty virus. I'll be in touch soon.I'm going to mark this thread as closed now, because it's achieved its objective of locating the farm. The family history stuff is fascinating to me, but I don't think it's really what Secret Leeds is all about and I don't want to fill the site with my 'personal interest' stuff. So, thanks again to all who have contributed here, with special mention to Grumpytramp for his detective skills, and Chameleon and Mrs C for going the extra mile (or several miles) round Harehills Cemetery.Cheers!Bruno.
The older I get, the better I was.
