A mate kindly lent me a book today ( Images of Leeds 1850-1960 [Hardcover] Peter Brears ) 1990. Interesting book with a good few that aren't on Leodis. Had a photo of the town hall with part of tower + no clock. He pointed out a photo of "two Skulls" - these mentioned here I assume. The detail under the photograph indicated that they were "..In memory of two unfortunates who'd been press-ganged into the Army and were sleeping on/in straw and suffocated.." From a pathology point of view I assume ammonia from the horse urine?Does this thread answer / explain ? [EDIT]Phill, Drapsey - see google streetview ! http://goo.gl/maps/1pgZP

there are 10 types of people in the world. Those that understand ternary, those that don't and those that think this a joke about the binary system.

...or this one. Going by the shadows, I'd say they were taken at different dates, and therefore probably by different photographers.Unless anyone knows different, I think these are the only two close-up shots we've got of them in their "original" position, although there is also a Leodis pic of the alley looking towards Kirkgate with the skulls just in shot.

I'm new to this thread. Have seen lot o' mentions of it.Yet as recently as yesterday, mate with the (1990) book and me were still thinking that if we wandered round the back streets of K'gate we'd find them Yeah going to put the kettle on then settle down and read this + some underground ones.I need the 'fresh set of eyes' mentioned.
