My recollection is that the shop nearest the camera sold coins, medals and other memorabilia. Can't remember what it was called though and I can't find it on Leodis. Anybody got a 1950s Kelly's?H.W Poole Bootmakers had been at the other end of the block but it looks as though it's been demolished on this photo.

Not sure why you are asking about the 50's. The photo looks like it is late 60's or even early 70's judging by car shapes. The right edge of the picture appears to be merrion street looking back at dudley house. The very left edge of the tower block element of dudley house is to the back right. This has now been replaced by K2/The cube. The Town Hall is then framed by the lower floors of Dudley House and Permanent house now replaced by the light. Top left of the picture is the building that house Leeds building Society as it is now, formerly leeds and Holbeck (and back circa 1970?)The left side is dominated by the building which now houses Halifax and Direct line amongst others before dortmund square bootom left

There's a mk3 Granada in the car park in the foreground, which means it's after 1977. I seem to remember the street still being there around 1981-2 before it was demolished. I got the pic from a forum on the 'Skyscraper City' Leeds page (a good site for building news).I have a vague memory of my dad buying me some wellies from that Shoe Centre place next to the pelican crossing (click on the picture to zoom in on it).

Yup, that picture has to be late 1970's, early 1970's I watched Dudley House go up, right next to my school.Just behind the buildings in the foreground was a NCP car park, which was in a triangular plot of land, with Woodhouse lane goind down one side, and Albion Street the other.I can vaguely remember a triangular block of buildings there, and wasn't there a car dealers further down ? Appleyards? I'm sure it sold very upmarket vehicles at one time.
