Not a shop but years ago there was a sign on a building in East Street which said "Batty's Brush Works" and I always used to think "well that's nice for him".

I remember it being there in the 80's when I was little.http://www.leodis.net/display.aspx?reso ... SPLAY=FULL

Didn't there used to be a Wah Shing restaurant next to the Old Royal Oak on Kirkgate? Always used to think it should have been a Chinese laundry. There's a pet grooming place near me called 'Doggy Style'.I'm saying nowt.

Isn't that in the very very old little building in Crossgate ??    It was a motorbike repairer shop as well (might have been the same owner) and a classmate of mine at school went to work there for his first job.

Si wrote: Not only suggestive, but a real name, and one I couldn't possibly post on here - a certain BMW dealership - I think he has/had a showroom in Bramhope? Not only that but it was obviously intentional as Eric wasn't his first name, if I remember rightly the garage name was G Eric ####

I can just remember the pleasantly silly name of Wigfalls on Boar Lane. What I can't remember is exactly which shop it was, but I think it's now either Yates Wine Lodge or Evans Cycles on the corner of New Station St.

Slightly off the subject but in the 40's/50's there was a building firm in and around Leeds called "Otty" but inevitably when you saw one of their wagons a "P" had been chalked in front of the "Otty", which never failed to have us kids in stitches. Simpler times.

Simpler times. The Totty name of the construction firm always amused me. Is there still totty around!
