Not in this area, but on Dewsbury Road there is an old public toilet that has been blocked. It is attached to the New Inn pub but seemingly not actually part of the pub itself?Large sign outside states something along the lines of - "If vandalism continues, these public conveniences will be closed".....And take note of the door that is now boarded up....    (still a bit big but better fit)

Also a Depot for horse drawn trams. The depot was in between the Police Station and the library on Abbey Road. It was built in 1876 and closed 1892 when Steam Trams took over the Kirkstall route. If you look in Jim Soper's Leeds Transport: volume 1 on page 231/232 it gives you the full details.

I think my sense of humour is getting ever childish as when I saw the pizzeria I could not help wondering if that had anything to do with the toilet (think about it!).

there are 10 types of people in the world. Those that understand ternary, those that don't and those that think this a joke about the binary system.

A bit out of area, I know, but there's this survivor at GlassHoughton (Castleford)It's on Front Street, which is between the roundabout that heads up towards Airedale & FerryBridge, and the one by the parade of shops http://travel.webshots.com/photo/276565 ... 9372aaLjhY

I bet cleaning out the 'Manure Pit' was not a job that anyone looked forward to doing! Probably good fertiliser though.

I may be wrong but I seem to remember that the new bungalow behind the loo was built on the understanding that the iron horse would be demolished shortly afterwards. Whether or not the "listed building" issue came to light too late I'm not sure - can anyone else remember ?? I do recall though that one of our lady inspectors vowed (quite seriously) that she would never again board a bus there because "Every time I'm standing there there's always that whooshing and sluicing going on inside the ruddy thing."
There's nothing like keeping the past alive - it makes us relieved to reflect that any bad times have gone, and happy to relive all the joyful and fascinating experiences of our own and other folks' earlier days.

Very handily positioned betwixt the Royal Oak and the Malt Shovel.
