What about the Highways on York Road, when were they built? I seem to remember that it was just a field there in the early 50s.
Is this the end of the story ...or the beginning of a legend?

There is still precious little sign of anything happening at Saxton Gardens - has this project been abandoned?

Drove past Holbeck Moor on the '621 and the flats are all but gone, just the last few remaining floors of the end block and still in place and I reckon they'll be gone tomorrow. The other blocks are already just piles of rubble.I know the blocks (like many others) had their problems, but I can't help feel that it's a crime to just demolish them when there are so many people out there desperate for a home.

I live in a block called Clayton Court, which along with its identical sister block Clayton Grange was built in 1963. Although the design I have been told is more of a 1950s style than 60's. There are identical blocks in Leeds just off York Road called the Appletons but they were extensively restyled and renovated in the 1990s. I dont know which are the oldest high rise, many of the older ones have been pulled down.

Hey there,I just came across this document which mentions Grange Court in Headingley as being the first purpose built block of mansion style flats in Leeds in 1912 (p16). http://hydeparkandwoodhouseonline.com/w ... nteresting as I had always thought this was an old institution of some kind whenever I have walked past.Lois
