I think i am on an other plane just had a look at the Echo building it does nothing for me at all. Is that what we now call modern ok so it has a curved roof but what else has it got going for it flat walls with mostly inset windows a bit of colour to offset the bare stark walls. Is it just me am i not with it if i had my way i would leave the tarpaulins in place at least they hide half the building but thats just my thoughts. In other words its minimalisum thats been overstreched on the verticle creating an overall optical abborrence. Get my drift?

Not just you Sundowner. A comment on one of the sites is something along the lines of "great, a building not completely clad in plastic". Not completely maybe but the pink bits of plastic that partially clad it make it far worse than the likes of Opal III built just of Wade Lane mainly on the site of where the Londoner was. the original "artists impression" of Echo is much better looking than the reality

Some interior roofing collapsed a few months ago, there has been a security lapse when that kamikazee guy jumped off with a parachute. What about that new building that you can see from miles and miles away. Is this bigger than BP? likes it though. Did it open? I must have missed the report. What's happening about "The Needle"? Is that project going ahead, or is it in progress? There seems to be a lot of building going on and I've lost track of which is which.

BLAKEY wrote: Its a great relief to me to hear that a high ranking Architects' Association has included this ghastly "1960s" style eyesore in the list of the top seven ugliest buildings in the Country. I know its only a matter of opinion, and I respect that, but ever since they began to erect this incongruous mess its caused me much disquiet. My main objections to it are the totally bland uninteresting panels and windows on the main "dalek" building - these panels look just like a "Bayko" model (for those old enough to remember those excellent construction kits), and the last straw are those three "missing tooth" gaps which look as if they are waiting for parts to complete it. Then we come to the "straight" office block attached to the south side of the tower - this block beggars belief for total lack of any appeal or character, and the same bland materials really rub it in.I know I've mentioned before how greatly I admire the two new buildings at the bottom of Park Row - both in their different ways are an absolute credit to the designers and bulders. Each of these buildings cries out with good taste, appeal and presentable materials. When they were built recently it was like a breath of fresh air, and it seemed that at last designers and planners had learnt their lessons from the ghastly errors of the 1960s/1970s. Yeah i agree with you Blakey, its bland and is nothing compared to the original and large more impressive original plan (which i cant find a render of any more)It doesnt even look tall, which i think is because of the stupid office block which makes you only notice its overall height from where the tower meets the office block, rather than from where the tower meets the floor. However,i have to say, that on a night it takes on a whole different aspect,it really does stand out (with the help of the specialist lighting)Also on a cold grey day it takes on a whole new look.I cant describe what i mean, but i look at it and i think its really impressive, not architecturally, but in its hue and texture.Jesus,im sounding like an architectural snob who goes on skyscraper city, but im not.I just say what i see.I really do wish Criterion Place had come off and that Lumiere was not on hold, then Bridgewater palce would not be the only pre credit crunch tall building in Leeds to be discussed.
