Vicarage Place & Street in Headingley were actually resurfaced about 18 months ago using Setts (cobbles) because it is a Conservation area.The Footpaths are paved with Yorkshire Stone flags,unfortunately they are repeatedly stolen because of the high price they fetch down south. Anyone who sees any person taking up York stone flags should should take down vehicle registration numbers (discreetly) and report it to the police ASAP It is very rare that LCC Highways take up flags,but operatives will be driving LCC Highways vehicles.

Unless they've bought an ex council vehicle at the auction (it's been known) i worked for murphy's and we stripped most of the flags round the town hall,afore replacing them after laying yeb cables...we never wore any id or drove council transport....that is why they were put back insitu,as good as they were put down in1850 odd.....but yes ...flags are worth a fortune,not just in the south,but in any stone yard throughout the civilised world.
