Does anyone remember Terry's All-Time Cafe, on Woodhouse Lane in the early 1980s? I think it was where the Leeds Met Business School is now, or around there, near Austick's secondhand bookshop, and it stayed open all night (hence the name). Probably the only place with 24-hr opening in Leeds at that time...

Hi Si,Dunny's (or is it's posh name 'The River/Wharfe View Cafe'?) is a popular place for cyclists and motorcyclists, besides everyone else. Sir Jimmy is occasionally seen there along with his old mate Dennis Peace. When Sir Jimmy managed the Old Mecca, Dennis was his assistant manager and then became manager after Sir Jimmy left. Dennis is in, or outside, Dunny's nearly every day talking to the cyclists. Anybody who used to go to the Old Mecca would still recognise him.In the 50's and 60's, the main cafe in Otley for cyclists and motorcyclists was Tommy's Cafe on Boroughgate near to the Maypole. All of the cycling clubs, particularly from Leeds, visited there and many of the cyclists married Otley girls. Many of us ended up in Tommy's after training or racing, nearly every night of the week. Tommy's closed down years ago and is now a Pizza Take Away place called Cuccina.Hi Ian,Just come across your post. Thanks for the info. Apparently Sir Jimmy was in Dunny's last year doing an interview for Callendar with Christine Talbot and insisted she bought bacon sarnies for the pupils of Prince Henry's who were in there! He also frequents Korks (not really a greasy spoon) and gets his cigars from Barber's. CheersSiPS In which part of Otley do you live?

Back to Leeds! My Wife and I used to frequent a cosy little Italian Ristorante/Trattoria (etc!) which was on the same side of Eastgate as Argos. It was called 'Al Bacio' and was equally as good as Da Mario's and quite a bit cheaper!Their Antipasto misto was the best I ever tasted anywhere!Alas! They closed down a couple of years ago anticipating the proposed new Eastgate(?) Precinct construction.Last time in there, we left our name and address with themso they could inform us when and where they were relocatingto! There were hints of Armley Town Street near the 'Feast' siteand we would all receive an invite to the opening! So Far---Zilch!Has anyone any idea if they did carry on trading anywhere? There is ANOTHER Curry House opened in their old premises now!Arry

Anybody enlighten me on the name of this café, or even remember it at all? It was located in the end terrace of shops next to what was the TOTAL garage on York Rd, opposite Turner Virr [Formally Jacobs biscuits]. At one time, it was owned by the Hillditch family who lived on the Sutton estate. I was in the same class at primary school as Lynn, one of their daughters. Very handy when collecting “silver paper” for the PDSA as she brought all the foil trays from the pies! I think it closed in the late 70’s.

I just found this website, but I've been doing a website reviewing Leeds cafes for a couple of months now. Only got 7 on there at the moment, but trying to build it up to include all the city centre ones.www.leedscafe.co.uk/
