It took quite a while to fill up, it was years before they managed to fill all of the units, especially in the lower part. There was just an oversupply of premises, with the Schofields Centre getting finished not long after.

Jumbo is definitely still in the St Johns on the upper floor on the church side. I would be surprised if it was there from the very early day's of St John's unless it was running in parallel with the one on the Georgian arcade of the Merrion which was still there until about 10 years ago (give or take).Spoils and Index were in St John's and I think Top Shop at one stage too.Schofields is currently undergoing a major refit and another name change to its third name in its relatively short history

Looks like Vallances to me, if so then its a marrow period of time, as Vallances didn't last long after the St John centre was finished.

Yes it was Vallances electrical shop, they had another branch on Vicar Lane, which is now the ethical products (or something like that)shop, opposite the bingo/bandit place.I remember it had a record/music section upstairs and they did advertise on tv,i think the top man was Martin Vallance.

Wasn't it Crash Records that was in the Merrion Centre, then moved to the top of Eastgate where it is now?

Here's a good picture of what preceded the St John's Centre.
