Where was the Oatland Pub ? from memory it seemed to be opposite that Pub in the Picture. I remember the chemist on the corner of Meanwood St. the firm I worked for bought the school room of St. Mathew's church and used it a carpet sewing workrooms from the mid 1950s onward. the house demolition was underway in that area. best pub in that part at the time was the Kings arms with lovely Tetley's creamy beer and a large landlord called Liege (?) who served the loveliest beef sandwiches. Happy days.

Hi j.c.d.,

http://www.leodis.net/display.aspx?reso ... SPLAY=FULL

Alfred Cross Street was between Meanwood Street and Oatland Street (south east to north west). The numbers ran consecutively, on the left, from Meanwood Street, so the pub, at No. 10 was about half way along Alfred Cross Street, on the left hand side, opposite the junction with Reeves Street.

The two pubs will have been about one hundred yards from each other as the Alfred House was on Camp Road/Metz Place and Metz Place had about fifteen houses on each side and abutted Alfred Cross Street, which was the next street to Sedan Place, which was immediately behind the Oatlands Inn Pub. It's hard to describe but easy to see on a map.

@ Leodian

These mapping sites might be useful.

Cheers Brunel :).

This link should (hopefully!) bring up a side-by-side comparison that I produced using one of your links http://maps.nls.uk/geo/explore/sidebysi ... ht=BingSat

The area certainly has changed a lot.

If you click on the "Explore georeferenced maps" link at the top, you can get the overlay and then alter the transparency with a slider on the left. Works really well in identifying what was and is there now.

Camp Road did, more or less, follow the line of Oatlands Lane

My first thought was is this even Leeds as I don’t remember there being so many high rises anywhere. Then I though perhaps the vicinity of Burmantofts looking across at Little London. Zooming in though there is a clock tower which I thought maybe the one on Northwood house, Sheepscar Junction except the building is facing the wrong way.

So I googled the bookie which took me to http://whotalking.com/flickr/Bookie where there is a suggestion photos of Marlborough Grove and Blandford Gardens were taken on the same day. So could it be somehere in the vicinity of the Art College looking across Sheepscar to the high rises off Lincoln Road in Burmantofts?

Edit I think Uncle Mick has pinpointed it more accurately while I've been thinking
