Barfly I remember there used to be a well known Leeds skateboarder called 'Snoz' who built a skateboard ramp in some woods near Bramhope. I've heard that since then he's had a hand in helping design the ramps at 'The Work's skate park in Hunslet and some other places too. Back in 1987 myself and some friends built a mini-ramp, well it was about 5' high x 15' wide etc using plans that were published in 'Rad' skateboarding magazine. Check out my photo! Unfortunately in the hurricane we had that year the ramp got folded in half by the high winds. Lucky for us it wasnt too badly damaged!

I remember getting the bus to Bramhope and heading along a footpath between fields into the small wood where he built it. A local kid was riding a Sinclair C5 the first time I went (I went twice, I think) and it was a little surreal.

Our 'modern' architecture was once quite in demand for futuristic filming.

Sinclair C5? I dont remember any of my friends back in Morley ever having owned one, infact I dont think I even saw one in the flesh so to speak until the late 90's, they were pretty expensive as far as I can remember and not really top of anyones xmas present list.I used to be quite into downhill skateboarding and I created my own downhill skateboard from an old wooden bed headboard which was curved up at either end. I traced out a sort of slim surfboard type shape from it then added some wide trucks and a set of large vintage 1970s Kryptonic 'Blue's which were nice and smooth and grippy for racing down rough roads. I heard that Snoz had tried riding his skateboard down Pool Bank and he'd come off and injured himself. Apparently until a couple of years ago the words 'Snoz died here' were painted on the road in gloss paint.I got quite good at downhill skateboard riding and I even once took on Scotchman Lane which is a large steep downhill section between Morley and Batley. It was about 2am when there wasnt much traffic about and I had my friends acting as road marshalls at the couple of bends halfway down. The road had just been re-tarmaced so it was a fresh clean surface and I absolutely rocketed down. I must have touched speeds of nearly 50 mph according to the attempt at time / distance we tried to calculate with a stopwatch. While this is nowhere near the 80+mph that other downhill skateboarders have reached is still very fast for moving on a skateboard. I doubt I'd have the bottle to do it again!

Wouldn't it have been the Brunswick Building of Leeds Poly that was used on Blake's 7? http://www.leodis.net/display.aspx?reso ... SPLAY=FULL

yes I always understood that Blake's 7 had filmed an episode at the Brunswick building for Leeds Polytechnic, however the common misconception is that it was filmed on the Leeds University campus where that brutalist classic 'The Roger Stevens' building is located.
