Morley swallowed the villages of Gildersome, Churwell, Drighlington, Tingley, East Ardsley and West Ardsley before itself being swallowed by Leeds. I used to live at West Ardsley and in those days (60's & 70s) it was very much a village. It had a co-op, a garage with petrol pumps, two newsagents, a couple of licenced grocers and a chippy and a pub that sold excellent Tetley's handpumped ales. All gone now except the pub, which no longer serves handpumped ales alas. Just a dormitory for Leeds, Wakey and Dewsbury now. Gildersome is still very much a village - with a village green a co-op various other shops and a couple of pubs. Drigh is three villages. Adwalton, Nethertown (going towards Farnley) and Drighlington.
