Mention of a quarry in Bramley fall Woods takes me back to Ca. 1959 when a gang of us from the Sandford Estate were playing in the Park.Noticing a foul smell, and being attracted to it as young lads are, we followed our noses through the park and the woods to find a small quarry, or at any rate a fair sized hole in the ground which was full of rotting dead horse carcasses. We got frightened then, as young lads do, and ran away.Anybody any idea what was going on there, surely nobody was fly tipping dead horses in those days. Vehicular access was very limited. Surely the Knacker's Man would have given something for the horse carcasses if only for the glue works, and how come the "Parkie" hadn't homed in on it and done something about it? It must have been a public health nuisance.BTW. I don't know if was "The Actual Quarry" or just a hole.
We wanted to make Leeds a better place for the future - but we're losing it. The tide is going out beneath our feet.

I was down at this site the other day and it's still in similar condition to it was when the thread was started. Some of the puttyworks may have gone but I'll check in the next few days when I go down with a camera. The strange "silo" looking things on legs are still there and one air raid shelter at least would be accesible though a bit of a crawl. There's also something water related with a small stone hut and an open manhole which seems to lead down into a culvert which a person could probably just about squeeze into.I'm planning on heading back in the next week or so weather permitting and taking my camera along to get a few pictures.

Some images taken earlier in the year here:http://www.flickr.com/photos/dervish99/ ... 974776/The air raid shelters appeared to be full of water, I think there were 4 of them.
Near a tree by a river, there's a hole in the ground.
