Green mound behind old church

Hang on a sec ive seen that part of moor rd before never knew or actually even suspected it was same road how long was moor rd it must have been massive did it roughly follow todays motorway and snake round ?

This is the course Moor Road took in the 50's before the motorway came.It would be interesting to see if there are any photos of the lost part of Moor Road on Leodis.

nice one is there any way that i can zoom into that? (something else has caught my eye lol)Im guessing prob not as there not much in the way of buildings near it but leodis comes up trumps more often than not the only pic of moor ive already seen is showing edge of moor house pub

Yeah cheers funny ive been on that site about a year ago. Rather than me start a new thread id like to ask something else if i may.Its all regarding hunslet hall road and the hall that it refers to.Now ive done a lot of research on the hall and it belonged to some of the big familys of leeds (nevilles i think).However there dosent appear to be anything on the net regarding the location of this hall. I would like to try and pin point in todays terms where the hall would have been.Ive read a book called "the forgotten folk of hunslet" which has reference to the hall but there dosent seem to be much out there any help on this one will be greatly apreciated

Hi polo The air raid shelter that was on Hunslet Moor was at the back of St Peters Court just over the wall on the moor.It was dug up and filled in many years ago.

Hunslet itself featured "a slender and obsequious population, a feeble and unskilful husbandry, but quiet, cleanliness and repose”. 5Hunslet Hall was formerly a stately building surrounded with a considerable park and presenting all the indications of aristocratic consequence and affluence.5 It was demolished in about 1930.Taken from here: http://www.hunslet.org/Up_to_1700.htmlWhat I find strange is that if it was demolished in 1930 I can't find it on any old maps & very little reference to it elsewhere

Looking at phills top map of Moor Road were it meets Dewsbury Road St Peters Church is on the left.Behind the church on the moor its self is a big oblong shape the air raid shelter i remember was in this very spot but only took up a third of this space.That would be the left end of the oblong could it be the shelter took up all the space shown on the map if so it must have been some size or is it some thing else showing on the map.?
