How things have changed, eh?

I am pretty sure there was one, and I know from Google earth there is a new(ish) one on Stanningley Road near Bramley Town End, but where was situated in the 60's?I can remember the one on Stanningley Road near Cockshott Lane, and the Pudsey one near Pudsey park.So was there ever a fire station actually in Bramley, or do my childhood memories deceive me? I have a much illustrated book titled "The Leeds Fire Brigade" by Chris Smith which was published in 2010. It covers the history of the fire service in Leeds from 1800 onwards. In the 1948-60 chapter of the book, dealing with post-war reorganisation, there is mention of three sub-stations that had been retained as wartime emergency stations and in use until purposely-designed premises could be built. Included was the Western Sub-Station on Henconner Lane at Bramley. (The other two mentioned are Middleton Crescent and Chapeltown.)For anyone interested the book is published by Concept Print of Brighouse

I'm guessng it may be was somewhere near the old tram depot at town end? That would have been fairly central to get to the rest of Bramley ...

Hi PatExpat,I hope the recent flooding in Thailand hasn't affected you too much. Some of the pictures from there, and the awareness I have from our company offices in Bangkok are that very many of the staff are badly affected.I hope you are ok.

Thank you for your concern ... we live in Chonburi, so no floods but many Bangkok residents have relocated here on a temporary basis, so road traffic is just dreadful, and there is no water in the shops plus shortage of some food stuffs ... but we have it good compared to many poor sods who have lost everything ... and there is no welfare state here! Incompetent is not even a start on how to describe the government handling of this disaster ...
