"Our street ( in Armley ) has been lucky. After the contractors laying TV optical cable left our flags in an appalling state I expected removal and tarmac replacement. "Same over in Kirkstall, no problem until a certain ISP/phone company ripped them all up about 15 years back without notifying the residents and then put them back in a terrible way.It took until last year for the street to be redone, still a bit wonky but much better, the cracked slabs haven;t been replaced though, just a splodge of tarmax dropped in as filler.

So councils don't check the state of road repairs. Do the Highways Agency. No if the mess from Sulzers to the White Rose Shopping Centre is anything to go by. A tarmac ploughed field across roundabouts and on the outside lane is awful. Even the stupid yellow stripes haven't been redone, because it's so uneven. I will ask the question, now where is that £1 million LCC website?

This is the published line:http://www.leeds.gov.uk/Page.aspx?pageI ... c5c5ff8dIf they can show they have been inspected, it allows the insurers to reject many of the claims made. Inspections of work done - probably mostly 'self certificated' these days.....Highways Agency have no responsibility for footpaths and town roads.

Utilities have to apply to open the road ane reinstate to the required standard which is supposed to emforced by the relevant authority. If it needs refoing the contractor does it at their cost. YW have dug up lots of west leeds recently and reinstated very well, but I would say that!

"beat me to it Chameleon, i used to work for them.used to avoid mentioning it socially as someone would invariably start banging on at me about the pothole in their street, and i'd have to explain that a) we didn;t do that and b) i worked in finance anyway iirc there's a few exceptions for trunk roads that come into the city, but i couldn;t tell you what they are at this time.
