Yes I think it was Brandy. I think the shop I recall also had coloured glass in the main windows as well.

Just wondered if anybody had found out about the blue 'S' sign? We have been looking at it today and my boyfriend insists it was the Schofields sign but I disagree.

It looks like the Schofields "S" to me.

Just had a dig around as I thought I had read about a connection and Shipman was a colleague of Schofields and persuaded him to buy the shop opposite himJust a thought It was Shiphams not Shipmans(Confirmed on Leodis)Used to collect clean detachable collars aftercleaning in a square cardboard box for my Dad.

Shiphams was located further up the Headrow from where Carphone Warehouse is, so I don't think it was in this particular building. From Leodis it seems that Shiphams was taken over by Schofields in the late 1940s and became part of the store, now demolishedCarphone Warehouse is in the Thorntons Buildings. There are some images of the Thorntons Buildings on Leodis showing various shops on that corner but I can't identify where the 'S' came from. Maybe when Schofields was demolished the 's' sigh was salvaged??Oh well it looks very pretty anyway!

If you search for Schofields on leodis there are photos going way back to the original store but none of this shop. However schofileds seems to have spread by aquiring neighbouring properties before the site was redeveloped into one store so it could be possible.
