There was a big fuss about a year ago wasn't there when they closed the market shopping precinct on the ground floor, so I assumed it would be dust be now.As for a more ugly building, may I suggest Leeds Magistrates Court. It's like Lego gone mad.

He lands on a car. Why,was it a true story? Sorry, cnosni, and I'm possibly being a bit thick here, but I don't understand your question or the emoticon.Coincidental in that the Leeds incident (fact) reminded me of Get Carter (fiction). and that Samson is located on Tyneside which is where Get Carter was filmed. "The real one"statement, iknew what you meant, just having a childish josh.

I think these are above a utility annexe at the 'back entrance' so to speak aren't they? They'll certainly get wet feet if they go downwards! It looks like its the adjacent Aire Street offices. The only occpants of the whole building are National Express on the 3rd floor.Apparently the Queens wants to push for 5 stars and therefore needs the leisure facilities to attain this

Talk of the lower regions of the station/Queens etc. reminds me of it having a basement and a sub basement which could be accessed by the stairs or one of the 2 lifts. There may have been connec ting doors to the the rest of the City Sq and Aire st area but as a young 15-16 year old alone in the dark in a strange place I certainly did not hang around doing the out of date filing!!

I always thought it would be very nice to arrive at the station having travelled first class and have one's bags taken through into the hotel by a porter (and visa-versa in the morning) prior to an overnight stay and continuing your journey in the morning. Doubtless the war put paid to that idea.As far as I know the goods entrance was one of the doors at the top of Neville St. near the layby. Certainly the refuse used to come out that way.As regards "Stars" it's difficult in the hotel industry to keep up the standard once the hotel has entered service. Inevitably over the years such things as fountains and decorative lighting features suffer attrition and stop working. After 15 -20 years layer upon layer of gloss paint has accumulated after many years of cheap re-fits, and usually there's no money to replace worn out furniture in the public rooms. The last time I put someone in "The Queens" he complained that his sleep was disturbed by the trains being re-shuffled in the station from about 4-00am. The last time I was in there a small ballroom had been turned into a tawdry bar / disco painted floor to ceiling in lurid purple (?) emulsion paint.Anyway to get awarded a certain number of stars a certain level of facilities has to be achieved. It's my experience that once awarded "Stars" are very rarely taken away no matter how the hotel deteriorates over the years, as long as the standards are still met to the letter, IE they haven't ripped the lift out !
We wanted to make Leeds a better place for the future - but we're losing it. The tide is going out beneath our feet.
