By chance I've just come across a drawing of Adel Towers in 1875. It is in a Don Cole's Image Archive in the Thoresby Society website. This is a link to the drawing https://www.thoresby.org.uk/content/DonCole/dc028.php. It does look very ornate so I wonder if there is artistic embellishment.
A rainbow is a ribbon that Nature puts on when she washes her hair.

I have that picture too. It does look a lot fancier than I remember it, but it was empty and decaying when I knew it.
