Nowadays I find it is getting harder to find a good old fashioned "caff" in Leeds as they are being replaced with cafe bars instead or just closing.anyone have any fond memories of particular ones or recommendations for ones still around?two of my favourites still existing in the centre of Leeds are :the one in the Merrion Centre market- a great greasy spoon, cheap and wonderful for people watching. The one at the back of the City varieties that you have to go upstairs to. - cheap and cheerful, food has improved lately.i used to like the one upstairs in the Merrion centre as it was a great place to arrange to meet people as it usually had space, plus visitors tended to miss it.

Thanks for that brandy , I hadn't noticed the thread. Bearing that in mind then ,how about people mentioning any current little gems of caffs in line with Secret Leeds being about stuff people might not be aware of <G>?

The Klondyke Cafe opposite the bus station. If I remember correctly, this was owned and or run by MArco Pierre White's father. One of my older brothers, who is a chef [apparently] trained at Thomas Danby with MPW. He recalls that he was a [edited for content] who was always trying to give the impression that he was more of a "council Kid" than he actuallly was. I read an article recently where MPW claimed that, as a child, he and his friends would go poaching on the Harewood estates. Load of old [edited for content]. Now I believe everything my brother had said about him.Oooh! just thought of two caffs! The Golden Spoon on Boar Lane and the Silver Cross at the end of North St.

was the Klondyke where the later 24 hour cafe(now closed?) is?, I vaguely remember it but not sure where exactly in relation to the bus station it was.

My favourite was the Traffic Light cafe, a tiny upstairs place in Leeds Market. The entrance was via the door at the north end of the market on Vicar Lane. And yes, it did have a traffic light as you went up the steps. Very basic. Still there?
