IIRC it was roughly around the Dortmund square area. About here. That's the old leeds permanent building in the background with the pointy bits. Now The Light arcade.http://goo.gl/maps/CDYvV

Can I be the first to say how much better that building looks than the current Direct line offices?

It's Wormald Row/Woodhouse Lane. A similar photo appears on Leodis.

It's here1st January 1926. On the left is Alfred Greenwood, motor manufacturer. Moving right, no.13 restaurant and hotel run by Henry and Edith Evans. Next no.15 Percy Charles Holmes newsagent. The entrance to Wormald Row can be seen, then no.17 'The City' public house, landlord Harold Buck 13th March 1933. The City public house and restaurant, Maria, H. Deacon the licensee. It had belonged to the Albion Brewery. On the left Lewis's store can be seen which had opened in 1932. To the right, Wormald Row with no 15, shop belonging to Percy Holmes, Newsagent.

Am I muddled or is that caption wrong about it being lewis's in the back ground? If you are looking east then that must be the Headrow frontage which looks all wrong to me.

I think you're right, Cardi. It's not Lewis's, it's the back of what is now the Light building, which was then Upper Fountaine Street. This is the same view on Google Street View:http://goo.gl/maps/dgYSy
