You mean 'Ernest Wiseman' sidekick of Eric Bartholomew?Someone's been watching telly last night..I was but a babe in arms when it shut, so soz cannae help. I have just cyber-wandered past on google streetview - still there fronting top of Glenthorpe cres, side on to outbound Yk rd.Ernie Wise is a little known product of Leeds, Bramley methinks?Happy New Year.

I have many happy memories of the Saturday morning kids shows at the Star - early fifties - being just a short walk from where we lived in Charlton Grove. I especially remember the lobby being dressed up with skulls and lurid posters for the showing of Dracula , scared me witless.Were there Saturday morning shoes at the Princess or the Regent ?

The Star, Shaftesbury, Princess, Hillcrest, Vogue, Clock, Regent, Ritz and Regal were all my local/fairly local pictures houses that I regularly went to until I got out of the habit of going by the very early 1960s. Other than going to then I unfortunately do not recall much about them (except that the Clock was much the grandest of them).

They were very nostalgic reading. I think childhood memories of going to the 'Pictures' will last a life time. I wonder if today's kids will recall going to the mutliplexes with such affection? Sorry for straying somewhat off the Star Cinema thread.

We all have those memories I think, though I never visited the Star, like so any though, remains instantly recognisable for what it once was as you pass by.

Chameleon, was Al Murad tile shop on Torre Road once a cinema edit:- if you look on Google Earth it says Regent on the roof!

I think the building is sitting empty again. Numerous attempts at health clubs,gyms etc but they never seem to last very long.
