This is my first post so appologies if this has been covered alsewhere in the past. Everytime I drive into Leeds it reminds me of when I was a kid and went to the Public Baths that were alongside the railway bridge near machine mart. I redall they were still there in the early 80's but have subsequently been knocked down and replaced by commercial units. I have looked for any photo's but can't find any on here or leodis. Does anyone else recall the baths.?

If you do a search on here for the baths there is a little bit about them in other threads, however here is one of the baths under the viaduct on the left, used to use them myself when I was a kid.

That's a terrific photo buffaloskinner (it was brought up on clicking on a red x, as for some reason my computer is not showing some photos). The tram, cars and petrol pumps are great! That area was not one I ever went to much but I do recall the baths building. I also seem to recall there was a PDSA very nearby but I'm unsure of that.

Yes, a really great picture with "atmosphere." I used to go swimming at the baths, and it also contained a public wash house where ladies could bring their weekly laundry and see to it themselves for a moderate price. The petrol station was C.R.Foster's where I bought a Morris Minor (split screen MWR 101) for £17.10.0d. I cheekily said that I wanted it putting through the MOT first and this was done at their repair depot at the bottom of Cardigan Road. Notice also in this picture the RAC sign on the lamp post - "A65 Ilkley."
There's nothing like keeping the past alive - it makes us relieved to reflect that any bad times have gone, and happy to relive all the joyful and fascinating experiences of our own and other folks' earlier days.

Isnt it strange how your memory differs from what was actually there. I assume its the flat roofed building behind the lady on the left.? I also thought it was much closer to the bridge than in the picture. But great pic nonetheless.

The old and the new !! The tram is operating from Hawksworth Road on what was left of the the original tram service to Guiseley White Cross. The Leeds City Transport bus behind is on service 71 which replaced the trams - quite unusual to see a picture showing both modes.
