According to Focus, a freesheet from the Lib Dems, the Fountain Head is being proposed for demolition to make way for the new trolley bus, which will terminate opposite Jimmy's. This seems to help people traveling to Jimmy's but no-one else any further in East Leeds and also demolishes the last traditional pub in the area!!!

Haven't seen the latest 'Focus' but I have heard similar whispers.Probably why Shay and Dizzie the last tenants baled out of the Fountain. As I understand it the 'trolley bus'will crossover at the lights near the North Leeds club and run adjacent to Beckett St thus taking it behind the Fountain.I doubt it will terminate there but who knows.Business has dropped off at the Fountain over the past couple of years, probably due to past pricing policy,£2.45 a pint for a 'back street boozer'was a bit rich when nearby pubs(when open) were charging £1.95-£2.00.

Didn't that local pub 'burn down by accident' though?

That is the East Leeds route and is intended to continue through to Seacroft, terminating in a large Green Belt Park and Ride adjacent to the alledged site of the Battle of King Penda.

I've just looked on the NGTMetro website where theres an aerial view of the planned route, it is definitely terminating at Jimmys and theres a big orange line where the the Fountain Head currently is.

Don't worry, it'll never happen. The trolley bus is as pie in the sky as the elevated tramway and the various incarnations of "SuperDooperTram". It's a sop by central government to make it look like they are planning on doing something but it will never get funding, especially in the current climate. That won't stop Metro and the council wasting £ million's planning for it though (see Supertram, etc above). Mind you, they might waste some of that money on a Compulsory Purchase order for the pub, like all the now useless land they bought in South Leeds...And in the unlikely event it does ever get built all the way to Seacroft it will still be quicker to get a traditional bus from Seacroft to St James' (or even into town) due to the tortuous "please everyone" route that they are insisting on making it take. In fact you may even be able to walk it quicker. The future of public transport in Leeds a load of secondhand red bendy buses, forced off the streets of London by Boris (I may have mentioned this before)

Istill have the promo stuff from the 70's which promisedLeeds would Lead in transport tomorrow. If it did happen, others obviously took note of our lead and did something else! NGTMetro are the ones who thought the guided 'opinions' of the 100 odd folk who actually took part in their survey were representative.

there are photos of the pub on the Melbourne signs thread. At the time I took the pictures there were 5 'courtiers' - but sadly only 2 survive after the explosion at the Florence Nightingale

Raveydavey's mention of a "please everyone" route reminds me of a ridiculous bus route I used to take to college in Newcastle, years ago. There was a "ladder" of terraced streets, and instead of the bus travelling down the road perpendicular to the 100yd long streets, it ran up and down them with bus stops at either end. It took ages, just to save passengers walking more than 50 yards, and must have used gallons of fuel, not to mention vehicle and road wear-and-tear, noise and exhaust pollution, and traffic congestion.
