Does anyone other than me remember this place?Top of Town Street - close to the Wortley Rd junction - the old building still exists (106?) as Jay's but in the early 60's it was 'Isherwoods', I think their main shop area was selling radio/TV/whitegoods, but they had a little room out the back, no bigger than 12' x 6' and there they had a record shop, selling all the latest LP's & 45's.Me and my couple of teenage mates used to shop there quite regularly - mainly because of the sweet young 'bird' behind the counter Wouldn't have a clue of her name but (I think) she had stunning black silky hair. My mate was very keen on her.... I well remember buying Bee Bumble's Nut Rocker 45 and then their (only?) EP from there as well as Mike Sarne's Come Outside (with Wendy Richard) - both played incessantly when Armley Feast turned up just a few blocks down Isherwoods was a great little record shop and so local for us Whingate lads - the next record shop was a trip in to town to Vallances if Isherwoods didn't have it.... Or perhaps Stubb's on Tong Rd for the old ex juke box 45's but I think that was a bit later - 1969?

Indeed there was an Isherwoods shop in Town. It was on Lands Lane opposite Schofields old store (top of the arcade). That would have been about 1963/64 I reckon. I was at school at Central High and we used to go to Isherwood's at lunchtime to listen to records downstairs. They had a small cafe on the same floor and maybe once a week or so we'd skip school dinners and eat there. I remember they did a delicious steak pie, chips and peas which I always had. Can't remember what it cost but I was 14 so it wouldn't have been much 'cos I was always skint. Never went in the upstairs part - that was all washing machines and boring stuff. Sorry for the 2+ years wait for a reply Dogduke.
