I was brought up a fairly strict Methodist. I went to Sunday School every Sunday and to Church (Chapel) afterwards. There was an incumbent minister who took the services regularly, and of course lay preachers, but every now and then there would be a student minister - announced the previous week as "a student from the Headingley College." At the time I thought no more about it - for me "the Headingley college" was the University - but apparently it wasn't. There was in Headingley a dedicated college for Methodist ministers. Anyone know where it was, or what it is today?

It's now known as Hinsley Hall. I have a photo of it on my flickr site, along with the history of the building, including the time when it was the Wesleyan Methodist College:http://www.flickr.com/photos/tasa_m/2705005888/

Thanks a lot. That's solved a mystery I've wondered about for a long time. If you look at their website they even have a conference room named for John Wesley which seems strange for a Catholic conference centre.

Which is probably why the former Methodist College is now called Hinsley. ISTR he was a Cardinal. Nice of them to leave a reference to JW.

Yes I'm old enough to remember Cardinal Hinsley being Archbishop of Westminster. He was the last but two (Hume and Heenan) I think that the boys part of what is now Yorkshire Martyrs School at Tong Street Bradford was once Cardinal Hinsley Catholic Grammar School.
