Quite a landmark and the beer and pubs quite a large part of people's lives.I worked there years, but times change. At one time Tetleys were one of the few breweries to still do cask (proper) ale, but to be fair they also shunted the stuff out in kegs (yeuk) and tanks (yeuketty yuk), and may have stopped cask if Camra hadn't forced a come back.Nowadays theres plenty of breweries round here that surpass Tetleys and the leeds Brewery is one.Of the brewery there's bits of history. The old fermenting block was one of the oldest bits and the old slate vessels they had with brass fittings were pretty darn good! I have one of the old wooden barrels and our lass couldn't understand why I wouldn't have it cut in half to go rotten as two plant tubs! It's polished up in the dining room and people love it.There are some deep boreholes on the site. In 1954 some engineers were killed when welding by one and the methane exploded and killed the pair. Same happened again in the 70's at a water board pumping station and the Tetleys acccident was recalled.I was there when there were 900 jobs but that has slowly shaved to 170. The older end will hopefully get good redundancy payments and the pension fund was a good 'un, but I don't know if the danes dismantled these benefits after I left. The Duke William pub was refurbished as a pub for brewery tour visitors to see - Tets first pub actually on the site. The danes flattened that so they could park a couple more tankers.Any more Tetleys memories?

Meadow Maltings on Meadow Lane. That belonged to Tetleys. They used to deliver beer in the city centre with horse drawn drays.
