Not much sign of life at the Pointer in Sheepscar or 'Kirkstall lites' either How long has the Kirkstall Lites been closed? God,it was a dump of a pub.I hated the name but I don't like to see the shutters going up.

Can anyone tell me the name of the pub that was on Park Lane opposite the college (back in the early 70's)?

Can anyone tell me the name of the pub that was on Park Lane opposite the college (back in the early 70's)? At that time it was called 'the Rutland Hotel' - now called the 'Fox and Newt' There's some pics and more info about it towards the bottom of page 4 of this thread.

There was an expose of this pub in one of the Sunday papers. In March/April 1968 Leeds Utd played Rangers, I was in Leeds that day completing the purchase of my first house at a solicitor's office on Park Square. City Square was absolutely thronged with Rangers fans. They apparently ran riot and wrecked the "Hope and Anchor" Presumably that was why when refurbished it changed its name.
