Local words of endearment are gradually being lost, so such as 'pet', 'dear', 'duck' and 'luv/love' are less often heard now. I heard one though yesterday that I don't recall ever hearing before (if I have it must be a long time ago) namely 'chicken'. It was said in a friendly endearing way several times by a woman talking on her mobile phone.

You cannot expect anything else with the PC brigade hot on your heels for a wrong word, or comment

My wife, originally from Northern Ireland, uses it all the time. She also strongly objects to being called love by strangers .

When we lived in Bristol..... "How bist me 'andsome" (Enquiring) and "Gurt Lush" (Really Good)

Around parts of LS8 and LS9 anything
said in English is rare

I remember a while ago Leeds City Council told there telephone operators that they had not to use the word love when answering the phone.

Greeting a Friend not seen for a while in certain parts of leeds,
"Nah TheN me old Muckah"
