The White Horse on York Road, Leeds.

Post by Leodian »

For many years now when I very infrequently passed the White Horse pub on York Road it looked very run down and even possibly closed. By chance I've just seen it on the Google Street View for November 2022 and it has clearly been spruced up, though it still looked very run down in the April 2021 view. I've now found it is a restaurant with good reviews.

The White Horse Inn on the right in 1902 before the front was reshaped, on the left are the coal pits. The map from 1840 shows the White Horse Inn and the coal pits

Is this the end of the story ...or the beginning of a legend?

Thanks buffaloskinner for the image and map. The 1902 view is looking up York Road towards the Harehills Lane junction. The 1840 map shows that there has been an inn there a very long time. As a kid in the early 1950s I recall playing on spoil heaps around that area.
