If you look closely at the aerial image, about 2cm to the right of the cross hair (on the link that Bramley4woods posted) and then go up about 1cm, you can make out an earthwork that spreads out to the top left (see pic attached, I have marked out the yellow line just inside of the earthwork). This normally indicates an underground structure or air raid shelter could be there?!?!

The estate pub is largely a dying breed. How can they be expected to compete with supermarkets charging 22p for a can of lager?I think the smoking ban will turn out to be the final nail in the coffin though, although I doubt you'd get any politician to admit it.

there are 10 types of people in the world. Those that understand ternary, those that don't and those that think this a joke about the binary system.

When did any politician ever admit to being wrong ?

Regarding the old air raid shelter at the back of the now old sandford pub site, well the picture LS1 placed is partly correct. All of the very green area shown contains the air raid shelter itself, if you look closely there are a couple of white marks on the field. These were caused by holes that were dug by local kids years ago ( not me, honest ) and filled in after there was a search for a local boy who went missing ( he was found later drowned in the canal after the search, he had been knocked in to the lock by his dog apparently). I was lucky before they filled it in to have a quick look (as kids do), it had long and quite wide passageways very spooky. some years later they were doing some work near the steps at the top right hand side of the field and 1 of the passages collapsed and the digger fell in, also there is a bricked off bit to it further down broad lane near to the ginnel between broad lane and braodlea street. Hope this helps.
