In the 1950s I worked for a carpet firm who had 10 or more shops on North Street one of which was on the corner of Stamford St and another on the corner of Whitelock St.so we were just yards away from the White Stag pub, just about all the houses in that area down to Regent St had been demolished leaving just the shops on North St and of course the two Pubs, The Eagle and The White Stag. the Stag did not do much business as it was hidden by the two shops in front of it. most of the clientele at the weekend were Gypsy's and walking down to one of our warehouses with a customer and trying to sell them a carpet as we skirted round the horse and carts plus some very strange goings on with some lasses round the side of the Pub was quite interesting.
When the Roscoe Pub closed up Chapeltown Road the landlord Noel Sqiures looked for another pub in the area and became the governor of the Stag. for all he tried the pub was still too far out of the way and In later years he took over the old "Foresters" Club on the roundabout Regent Street and named it the "New Roscoe"
