[quotenick="simongIt's the shop on the corner of Crossgate that was a real ale bottle shop briefly a couple of years ago with the round windows. They weren't impressed by my suggestion of Northerer Bar for a name. With respect this is not Crossgate is it ?? I think its an alley leading from Bondgate and the building on the the right is the former Woolpack, now an Arts Centre.    Crossgate is, IIRC, the main road leading from opposite Kwikfit to the bus station (or what's left of the once wonderful lively latter which originally went right through to Boroughgate ).

Blakey, you're right. The shop address is Bondgate but it's on that seemingly unnamed alley.

Doesn't look big enough to be a bar though does it? Even so, I still can't place what it was back in 1977 when I lived in Otley! My daughter says it's one of a group of bars - Alfred and Cross Keys being two of them (both unknown to me!) - as well as others elsewhere in the county and probably further afield. Cheers all.

I seem to remember jd that the weird window was installed when it was being prepared to open as a trendy gown shop.     The shop next door, on the Bongate junction, was Malcolm J. Feather's radio shop where I bought one of the first transistor radios which was about the size of a small fridge, well it seemed like it - it was an "Emerson", American I believe.

The shop with the round window was a potters' workshop before it became "Wharfed Ale", the beer shop. The alley behind is Mercury Row, where the re-used lintel is, as mentioned on another thread.
