Does anyone know the reason behind the 'Red Rec' being known as the 'Red Rec'?Used to visit my grandparents who lived on Moorfield Road in Armley and I played regularly on the rec which was just over the road from them.Regards BT

The field was originally owned by the adjoining meter factory, from what I have been told. Moorfield Road leads on to Redcote Lane some distance to the south, but I doubt if that was the connection - Moorfield Road was once called 'Dead Lane' if you go back a century or so, I guess they changed it to something more palatable for the benefit of any one living on it. Prior to that it was the more innocuous 'Quarry Lane'.
