This document is absolutely spot on and, if in greater detail, would surely scuttle this lunatic idea - its to be hoped so :!: :!:

MP brands Leeds trolleybus scheme ‘second best solution’

LEEDS North West MP Greg Mulholland says the public should not forced into accepting the £250m Leeds trolleybus scheme as a “second best solution” as he prepares to meet Transport Minister Claire Perry over the issue.

Liberal Democrat MP Mr Mulholland wants the government to allow people in Leeds to consider all options, including light rail and tram-train transport systems.

Don't want to be smug but I always said it wouldn't happen. That and HS2. Just like we were all supposed to be able to get to Paris nice and quick from t'North. Surely we've got better things to do with that money?

The whole sorry saga stinks and this revelation is just the latest in a long line of worrying developments that suggest the scheme owes more to political intransigence than a desire to provide the very best public transport for the city.

However, given the "postponement" of other projects since the election, not least of which was the much fêted electrification on the trans Pennine rail route, surely this scheme is now dead in the water and it's just a matter of time until its officially announced and the inquest into the public cash that has been wasted on it can begin..?

Nigel Lawson on today's Daily Politics Show was asked where the Northern Power House was,to which he responded "The North West of England".
Pretty much confirms what I think we all suspected was the governments/Chancellors real idea idea of where it was all along
Seems that Leeds keeps getting turned over by successive Chancellors who ensure that capital funding is directed to areas outside London where their own constituents, and as a consequence themselves politically, benefit.
George Osbornes constituency neighbours Greater Manchester and Edinburgh got the funding for its tram in favour of a Leeds.
The Chancellor at the time, Alistair Darling, was sun Edinburgh MP.

Anybody know anything about the attached pic, seems Metro was playing with the idea of a trolleybus a long time ago by the looks of it.

This is Doncaster Racecourse carpark area, we did various trials there on a number of options, one of which came into being. It became a showpiece for Metro to show to the interested parties. If I recall it was another baby of Bob Tebbs along with guided bus.

The Doncaster depot is just over the road so it was handy to use the racecourse carpark roads, with permission of course.
Is this the end of the story ...or the beginning of a legend?
